From the PGA Tour: 2011 ushers in a new world order

What’s striking about the changing complexion of global professional golf is the dawn of a new age of young talent principally from Asia.

The 2011 season will witness the addition of two young South Korean players to the PGA Tour’s rolls. They are 20-year-old Bio Kim and the 24-year-old Sung-hoon Kang.

We do also expect some participation from two 19-year-olds, Ryo Ishikawa of Japan and Noh Seung- yul of South Korea. 17-year-old Italian phenomenon Matteo Manassero became the youngest winner ever on the European Tour in 2010. A curious 17 of the world’s top 25 players now hold domicile outside the US.

Jonathan Byrd Win the Opening PGA Tour Season

Jonathan Byrd opened the PGA Tour season winning a sudden-death playoff in the Tournament of Champions when Robert Garrigus missed a 2 and half foot par putt missed on the second extra hole.

Maybe Jonathan Byrd’s recent success shouldn’t come as a surprise. Byrd, winner of his past two PGA Tour starts, is one of the most consistent iron players on Tour.  He ranked 20th in greens in regulation in 2010 and fifth the previous year. He also was No. 1 in the PGA Tour’s top ball striking statistic (which combines GIR and total driving) in 2009. Byrd’s swing has undergone dramatic changes since he began working with instructor Mike Bender two years ago. Bender also instructs Zach Johnson.
